Where it all began…

From starting her training in 1996, Steph Holland’s passion for beauty therapy kept on growing, and she hasn’t looked back.

Her work took her around the world where she worked with clients on 5* cruise ships and in prestigious salons and health spas. After honing her skills in these roles, and working freelance for companies and charities in the North East, Steph decided that her next step would be to start working for herself.

From humble beginnings operating from the back of a tanning salon in 2005, Steph grew her business enough to be able to open her own premises.

A desire to share her wealth of knowledge, skills and experience in beauty therapy led her into teaching others to do the job she loves so much.

She gained her Certificate of Education from Sunderland University and began working as the head of a high school beauty department. She loved teaching so much she was inspired to set up her own business, the Essential Beauty Training Academy, based in Ashington, Northumberland.

“I remember when I started beauty therapy training back in 1996, I really lacked confidence,” Steph recalls, “I have a real empathy for the students I teach because I know what it feels like when you think you can’t quite get the hang of something. Having a patient and supportive mentor makes all the difference to the learning experience.”

Steph brings over 20 year’s industry experience to her teaching and a real desire to help every student learn beauty therapy skills in a supportive environment.

“I want to help every single person that comes through the door gain confidence in developing their beauty therapy skills,” says Steph, “whether they are a seasoned professional looking to upskill or a complete beginner.”

Every beauty therapy course taught at the Essential Beauty Training Academy is run by Steph or one of her fully qualified consultants, and she aims to keep standards high and classes small, so that the environment feels as relaxed and informal as possible.

“I like to deliver exceptional beauty therapy training to all of my learners and help them to build confidence and feel at ease,” says Steph, “I promise everyone that they will come away feeling confident in their new skills.”

The personal approach to training offered by the Essential Beauty Training Academy, coupled with the benefits of having a tutor who still works as a hands on therapist in her salon makes for a fantastic professional learning environment.

With a range of comprehensive beauty therapy training courses and a full programme of beauty treatments available, plus plans to expand what is Northumberland’s only beauty therapy training academy in the near future, Steph’s love affair with all things beauty looks set to continue.

Not bad for someone who never wanted to own their own business or teach…
