Why Training in Niche Treatments is Great for Your Beauty Career

If you’ve been following us on Facebook, you’ll have seen that we recently ran our first Oncology Massage course. We had a gorgeous day training therapists just like you to be able to do massage treatments on people with cancer.

Aside from being hugely rewarding, training in niche treatments like these is great for your beauty therapy career. Here’s why;

Having a niche puts you ahead of your competitors

It used to be that word of mouth was all that was needed to get custom for salons and mobile therapists, and while that’s still important, if people want to find a therapist who does something in particular, they often go to Google.

How do you stand out among the countless other salons and therapists who offer a similar treatment menu based around massages, manicures, pedicures, and facials? The answer is you offer a niche service- something specialised that they won’t easily be able to find elsewhere.

Instead of trying to offer all things to all people, offer something that meets the needs of a very specific group of people.

You’ll build a great reputation

When you offer niche treatments, the specific customers you’re targeting will always come back to you because they’ll see you as a specialist. Going back to Oncology Massage, who will someone who has cancer visit for a relaxing therapeutic treatment- you with the specialist skills who is aware of contraindications and massage techniques for people with cancer, or a generic therapist who will probably who will probably have to turn them away for insurance reasons?

It’s amazing for personal development

If you train in a niche, you’ll learn about a specific treatment in-depth, and you can even go onto specialise further once you’re qualified. Imagine being able to market yourself as the go to person in your area for Oncology Massage, or another specialist treatment?

It helps you focus your marketing

When you have a niche, you’re aiming your services at a very specific group of people, so it’s far easier to target them with your marketing than just marketing to everyone and hoping for the best.

You’ll be easier to find online

If you offer your customers a niche treatment, you’ll be far easier to find on Google than if you only offer generic treatments. Type your area followed by ‘massage’ into Google and see how many results come up. I bet there’s a lot. Now type in your area plus ‘Oncology Massage’ and I’m betting there won’t be half as many (if any at all). Imagine if your business came top of the search results for a particular treatment your area and what that would mean for your profits.

It will open doors

Having a niche qualification could open up a lot of opportunities for you and take your career in a completely different direction from what you expected. Imagine being excited going to work every day, and not knowing what each day will bring. A niche qualification might help you discover a new passion and reawaken your enthusiasm if you feel like you’ve just been trundling along.
