When I opened the doors to the Academy back in 2010, my vision was that I wanted to deliver excellent training to students while making them feel completely at ease and confident enough to go out in the world and offer a great service to clients.
I remember what it was like when I was training; a bad experience with a tutor can really knock your confidence. That’s why my approach to teaching is being patient and really caring for my learners. To me, it’s not just about getting bums on seats, it’s about delivering personalised, high-quality training in small classes where everyone is given the time and attention they need.
We are more than just your average training provider; we care, and we make a difference.
Our Social Enterprise
I started Essential Beauty & Training Academy (North East) Limited in 2017, and it was something I had wanted to do for a while. My aim was to deliver Beauty Therapy training to carers who had lost their confidence, felt isolated, and wanted to learn skills that could help them get back into employment.
Carers are the unsung heroes. They often have to give up their jobs to look after someone, and when their caring role comes to an end, they can often lack the confidence to go back to work.
Through my social enterprise, I deliver a fully-accredited VTCT Level 2 LED Gel Polish application qualification to carers to open doors to employment or further training for them. It’s amazing seeing people growing in confidence session by session, and being able to think about themselves and their futures again.
We recruit our learners from Carers Northumberland, Mesothelioma Carers and Patients Group, and the NHS Cancer Carers Group who we work closely with.
Promoting Mental Wellbeing
We have also recently been awarded a grant which will allow us to deliver our ‘Heal Yourself, Build Your Future’ course to carers which will combine training in Beauty Therapy skills with teaching on how to look after their mental wellbeing. We really hope that the programme will help carers feel less isolated, improve their skills and confidence, and improve their mental wellbeing.
Providing the Only Oncology Massage Training in the North East
Those of you who know me know that I lost my amazing mam to cancer a few years ago. I know first-hand how important it is to be able to offer people who are suffering from cancer some comfort and serenity during what is such an awful time.
This is what made me bring Oncology Massage training to the academy, and we’re the only training provider in the North East that offers this amazing qualification.
Massage is such a relaxing treatment, and even though studies have found that it can reduce symptoms like pain, anxiety, depression, and fatigue in cancer patients, many therapists have to turn people with cancer away. The main reason for this is that insurance providers haven’t been willing to take the risk of clients being harmed somehow, or that massage might make the disease progress.
But once they’ve completed our fully-accredited Oncology Massage course, learners can really make a difference to people with cancer, add a cutting edge massage treatment to their menu, and stand head and shoulders above their competitors. What’s more, learners who already do voluntary work with people who have cancer can get the training at a reduced price.
Engaging with Education
So you’ve probably guessed by now that we’re all about helping people and giving something back. We have recently partnered with ENGAGE learning; an education company based in the North East who provide a nurturing learning environment for children who have been taken out of the education system. This amazing company helps disengaged children improve their grades, gain qualifications, and provides them with a clear route into further education, training, or employment. We are so excited to be able to introduce Beauty Therapy to their education centre and we hope to achieve great things with the children who learn with us.
Why train with us?
As well as offering a wide range of high-quality, fun, and informative courses to learners that really prepare them for working with real-life clients, we’re the only independent training provider in Northumberland with VTCT accreditation, and we offer training on flexible terms, so our learners can train around their other commitments.
Our USP is that we care. We’re not a huge training provider who is only worried about profit, we genuinely like to see people succeed. That’s the way it should be.
All our courses are taught in small groups which makes for a relaxing learning environment where you’ll get all of the attention you need. Steph, our academy director and trainer, has over 20 years’ experience in the industry so when you book a course with us, you’ll be perfectly prepared to be the most successful therapist that you can be.
